The book – Change Your Question, Change Your Life by Wendy Watson Nelson –  deals with the questions, and of course answering, not just any mundane questions, but those that make us pause and reflect on the different way we could formulate a question, as well as different was to answer them.

Nelson describes three kinds of Questions, and the discussion of the few will follow.

1. The Difference Questions

As the title suggests, it deals with the difference of the information available to us. We can distinguish here the duality of things, which is light and which is dark. With these types of questions, we try to navigate the differences that people have, in their life, relationships and their varying situations. These are the word often associated with comparatives and superlatives.

2. The Behavioral Effect Questions

The last one deals with externals, or thing most people see, this one deal with internal, behavioural effect questions try to see how our thought and feelings affect the way we behave. This kind of question offers the person a chance to review their life introspectively and become aware of themselves. This can help in understanding our thought, feelings and actions.

3. The What If Questions

The two initial questions deal with something that has happened, but unlike the common notion that this question deals with the past, the author argues that this one deals with the future.
This kind of thinking offers the avenue for the exploration of possibilities, new angles of actions, or maybe a new layer of meanings. It would shed light on things that have not happened by may happen in the future.

Change Your Questions, Change Your Life

Why am I discussing these questions to you though, you may ask. These explanations aren’t complete, though they may seem like it, Nelson offers more and an in-depth of all these questions, and more in her book -Change Your Questions, Change Your Life.

Here she makes us understand the different way we look at life affects the difference we actually live our lives. This small part of the book I included here is to tease you, to be excited to more of the questions, Nelson’s Change Your Question, Change Your Life will pose to you, and hopefully make you want to read the whole book.

Who is this book for?

This book is for everybody, if I may argue. This is the kinds of questions that make us better persons, that makes us more aware of our surroundings, of the people that live around us, and the lives we affect. If you were to ask me, this is not a self-help book, but a self-questioning one. It makes us asks questions to ourselves we never even bother to think about, it makes us more Intune with the inner working of our minds, it helps to become better people. It also offers questions about finding your life’s mission, questions about God, and questions to become a better missionary.

Conclusion:

Questions and the way they are framed lead to how the answers and solutions will be given. This goes along way in affecting how our lives will be shaped.

I hope you enjoyed the reading and if you have a question or comment, please feel free to post.

Cheers,

Thomas
